What is it?
It isn’t a can!!!! It is, instead a juice-box of wine. But a very large, 500ml juice box. That’s about three glasses (a bottle of wine is 750ml). Huge.
It is a Pinot Grigio from California with a 13% alcohol content.
What’s good about it?
It comes in a box. The box is sturdy and light and portable. The origin of Bandit is, briefly, that hikers wanted to hike with wine (because, of course). They decided to put wine in a box with a lid that can be opened and closed and opened again.
Now, the box of wine is BIG. If you’re going to a concert or something (or maybe a hike) then this is a good thing to take because you only need the one. Or, if you are like me, it is really great to keep in the fridge and take a sip from while doing house chores, or loafing about or whatever.
I loved that I was able to take the top off and put it back on. It felt like I didn’t have to drink it all, whereas when I have a can I kind of feel compelled to drink it all.
What does it taste like?
It is a Pinot Grigio, which is a neutral white wine. Pinot Grigio is supposed to taste kind appley and with hints of fruit like pear and lime or lemon and even peach. But very mild, for the most part. This wine isn’t full or ripe or aromatic, like some white wines. It is a ‘safe’ wine.
This Pinot Grigio isn’t the best tasting Pinot Grigio I have had, being extremely neutral, even for the variety. It kind of lacks anything interesting about it, but it is also extremely drinkable. And I’ve definitely have had worse wines.
What isn’t good about it?
If you’re looking for the best expression of Pinot Grigio then this isn’t your wine. It isn’t terribly exciting.
Would I buy it again?
If I were camping or hiking or spending a day at the beach or doing some other outdoorsy, muddy activity then I would.
