What is it?
This can wine is a lightly sparkling ‘grain neutral’ spirit with grape wine and a peach flavour. Or, in other words, it’s a peach Soju in a 335ML can. It comes in a pack of 6 cans.
What’s good about it?
With only 3% alcohol by volume, this can wine is a chilled out low alcohol option.
The pink packaging caught my eye in the store as pink packaging is prone to do (yes, I am THAT kind of person).
The can also has an adorable illustration of a girl in a pink dress and because the words are not in English, it isn’t very obvious that it is actually an alcoholic beverage. It looks like an innocently sweet soda. Perfect for covert drinking.
To be honest, I was skeptical about the peach flavour. Normally, I hate fake peach anything. A fresh, real peach is a beautiful thing, but I find fake peach can have a very sickly taste and smell. Back in the day my housemate had a Skin So Soft peach lotion that mostly just smelled like vomit to me and would make me gag a bit when she would use it.
But the cute packaging really sold me on it (proof that marketing and a lifetime of being told by society that, as a woman, I like cute pink things really do work).
What does it taste like?
As it comes in a high commitment 6-pack, I took a big punt on this peach Soju. I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be delightful; tok tok is sweet and sparkling and very refreshing. It feels like a gentle summer’s day. The fake peach flavour is actually tasty and subtle, rather than overwhelmingly sickly sweet and gag inducing.
I can envision myself drinking it poolside, or wearing coordinating onesies with my girlfriends, on our beach cruisers, sipping on tok tok.
I found it to be perfect for drinking post workout or could imagine nursing a can on sweltering summer time public transportation (and anyone that’s been on the London Underground on a hot summer day knows it is better to be both slightly intoxicated and very well hydrated).
If you are looking for the subtle peach flavours found in your favorite Viognier, then this is not your wine. But if you’re like me and have a insatiable sweet tooth, then you’ll enjoy this can wine/Soju.
What isn’t good about it?
It is VERY sweet and VERY peachy. If that’s not your thing then this can wine won’t be either.
If you’ve ever had an Italian soda, it’s like that, but with a tiny splash of alcohol. And, for me, a major downside is that it’s so delicious that I went through a six pack of these in no time and it’s a lot of sugar to consume (I mean, all alcohol is a lot of sugar, but, you know, this one FEELS so sugary).
Would I buy it again?
Yes, it is deliciously refreshing and great in a glass full of ice for my post workout boost (hey, it’s not THAT different from a Gatorade!).
