What is it?
This 250ML can of wine is lightly sparkling with a distinctly citrus ruby grapefruit taste. At 7% ABV it’s small can size, relatively low alcohol content, and citrus punch makes it a great contender for summer day drinking.
What’s good about it?
Deviating from the pastel pink can that you’ll find on a lot of cans of wine (hey, can wine makers know their market), this one comes in a bright pink and orange can.
It’s flashy and bright and immediately conjures up images of summer music festivals, full of day drinking, Brandy Melville crop tops and glitter all over my face.
In reality I bought this on a rainy day in early March in Philadelphia for a night out that ended with me drinking Bacardi 151 from a long, neon coloured straw that arrived on fire in a huge ceramic conch shell. So in many ways, just like a typical English summer day.
The can is a good size: 250ML isn’t too big and it fits handily into a smallish purse should you decide, like I did, to take the show on the road.
What’s it taste like?
Ok. I like citrus, I really do. Like, for example, if you give me a bag of those easy-peel oranges I will probably eat most, if not all of them, in a 24 hour period.
I gravitate towards citrus smells. One of my favorite perfumes of all time is Frederic Malle Bigarade Concentree which smells like running through a citrus grove with a sweaty sexy person on a hot summer’s evening in the mediterranean.
But I digress. The point is I love citrus. But I did not love this can wine.
Now, to be fair, I didn’t dislike this can wine, it just isn’t for me.
I think citrus flavoured things can be great, but I prefer them to be subtle. I find if it’s too citrus then it hurts my mouth and that’s not something I like.
However, if you like sour candy or you’re really into sweetly sour things then you might really like this wine.
It is totally drinkable, and totally pleasant. It does taste like ruby grapefruit and it really refreshing, especially when very cold. It tastes summary and bright, but the citrus flavour was just a bit too strong for me.
What isn’t good about it?
Like I said, it’s not my cup of can wine, but it is overall a good can of wine. It’s a good size, it looks groovy and it has a reasonable alcohol content.
Would I buy it again?
No, probably not. But I also wouldn’t NOT buy it again, if you know what I mean.
